I'm a bit pissed off

I’m a bit pissed off at a couple of people who have been making stupid comments at this site recently. We have a pretty cool community here that got along, had a laugh and made this site fun. But a few recent arrivals are hijacking posts and just being rude/stupid and making comments of absolutely no relevance. Please have some sort of respect for this site and the people who visit it. If you can’t say anything intelligent don’t say anything at all. And if this continues I’ll disable the comments function or even take down the site, that’s how much it’s annoying me. Or maybe find a way of banning your I.P. addresses.

  1. I was gonna post this to the girlfriend/ sister/ cousin/ mum thread after Umm Usama forwarded me Mullah Omar’s email. But seeing that I can help you with this crisis, I will just post it here. (You can also email Haya in Amman, or I should say HRH Princess Haya, but, she is younger than I and I rarely call her that long a name. Or I can just forward this to her. She knows a lot more about these technical stuff than I do.)
Of the three options you speak of, two are under your control. You can disable the comments function. You also can take down the site completely. You do not need any outside assistance to do these two.
On the other hand, to ban any particular IP (or range of IPs) from being able to access your site, you would need to call (or email) your ISP, or whomever is controlling the server. A quick way to find out particular IPs are from the posts that these people make (you can insert a IP field and into the posting mechanism. I am not sure if dotcomments already does this or not. I have not seen the source code. With all the stuff going on in Gaza and West Bank, I doubt I’ll get around to seeing them anytime soon.) Another way to find a person’s IP is from the emails they write you. All the IPs are stamped in the header. A third way to find out a person’s IP is to examin your server logs and match them with the timestamp of the people posting thing on the boards.
One negative side of IP banning is that if a person is on a dialup connection, his (seeing that so few of us women visit your site, I’ll use the male pronouns) IP will change every time he dials up. So you may need to block a range of IPs to disable this person’s access to your site.
Anyhow, I hope this helps. If they still bug you, let me know if I should tell Yasser. He can take care of ‘minor problems.’
    Hugs and kisses.
    Suha.

  2. Right this is getting dodgy and stupid. If you guys don’t have any thing else to do, go create your own sites and stop annoying Saima. I don’t know where you people came from but you have no right to start using other people’s domains for your own private amusement.
    Leave Saima alone.

  3. Implement admin moderated registration, take off comments for tourists….. voila! you are through…..
Tuff problems have simple solutions…… Btw… am too a tourist…… so mebbe this be my last post 🙂

  4. I added a little line of php code in mine which emails me with the ip address of the person. This comes handy when:
    a. Some person tries to impersonate two different person to annoy the heck out of you.
    b. to identify the person i.e when you need to turn him over to the authorities. Of course there is the problem with non static ips, which can easily be overcome. You see, not only would you be taking the ip address of the person but the date and time of the post. That way when you trace it back to particular isp, you could always lodge a complaint with them and they would easily be able to look through their logs and see who logged on with what particular ip at said date and time.
