They’re from the Isle of Man ya know

I have a really sore throat right now from singing TV ad jingles in the style of Barry Gibb all afternoon.

V for Vendetta

I watched V for Vendetta at the weekend. It shows the world in the future; the horrible prejudices, evil injustices and iron grip that the media has on our opinions. Oh, how different from 2006(!) I don’t mean to sound so cynical but the movie really captures a lot of what is wrong with the world today. It exhibits massive foresight on the writer Alan Moore’s part considering he wrote this back in the early 80s.
I won’t give too much else away. I highly recommend you go watch this as you’ll be amazed by the similarities between the themes throughout the movie and the current state of the world. I also recommend talking about it extensively with other people after you have seen it mainly because it annoys them and especially if they haven’t seen it yet.

Spee-doh

I befriended a rather strange Bangladeshi woman at the swimming pool yesterday. Our initial encounter was less than ideal; I thought she was drowning and alerted the lifeguard only to be told, “she always does that”. “That” being floating face down in the pool for a rather long time.
We hardly spoke the same language but I still managed to convince her to race me, mainly because she was the only other person there who was not a five year old or a mum of a five year old. Also because she was the only other person who could swim. Always helps.
We made quite the pair. I was top to toe in black Speedo gear; she was wearing a shalwar kameez that goes transparent on contact with water. Thank God for granny pants is all I’m saying.
She turned out to be quite the worthy component, my victory on the backstroke lap was shortlived after she trounced me in the underwater section of our competition.
I feel that my swimming sessions will be much more interesting from now on. I came away with two hours of good exercise under my belt, a couple of prawn curry recipes and a stubbed toe from trying to do the butterfly stroke in the shallow end.

Give it back

I lost my mobile phone on Friday, or as the police put it, it was a “theft by find”. This is as uncool as a hedgehog in a sleeping bag.
Boo. Hiss.

Into the Loo

Sometimes you should listen to your head, sometimes you should listen to you heart and sometimes you should listen to your rather wise other half. Advise I should have taken before watching Into the Blue.
If you had to look up T&A in your special acronym dictionary, this film would quoted as a perfect example. The acting is so wooden, you don’t know where the beautiful yatchs end and the pretty people begin.
The film in fact did so little to hold my attention that during a scene where a drug dealer pulls out $30,000 from a boat’s equivalent of a glove compartment, I could only think of the various ways in which he could be getting higher returns on his money. I amused myself till the end of the movie with visions of him steering his yatch upto a floating branch of HSBC and discussing high yield savings accounts.
